On the beautiful seashore of southernmost tip of China lies a modernized 4E civil aviation airport. That is Sanya Phoenix International Airport. The airport is located 11km northwest of Sanya downtown area, surrounded by numerous scenic spots with romantic Sanya Bay and “Lu Hui Tou (deer turning her head back) far to the east, famous “Tian Ya Hai Yao” (earth end) to the west, Phoenix Mountain near to the north and vast South China Sea closely to the south.

The company was founded on January 18, 1991 and was standardized and transformed into a limited liability company on June 8, 2000. Its legal address is Phoenix Town, Sanya City, Hainan Province. Its registered capital is RMB 2 billion yuan. The company adopts a system of president assuming chief responsibility. It has 8 departments and 4 branch companies, namely Comprehensive Management Dept., Planning & Finance Dept., Control Center, Ground Service Dept., Security Checkpoint, Operation Supporting Dept., Resource Development Dept., Police Office, Sanya Phoenix International Airport Cargo Transportation Co., Ltd., Sanya Phoenix Property Management Co., Ltd., Sanya Lufthansa Inflight Food Co., Ltd. and Sanya Aviation Advertising Co., Ltd.

   Sanya Phoenix International Airport is a domestic trunk line airport, taking up a land area of 463.32 ha. The runway is 3400m long and 60 wide. The airfield is 96,800m2, which is classified into 4E standard defined by International Civil Aviation Organization. The airport is able to meet the requirements for landing and taking off of fully loaded large aircraft such as Boeing 747-400. Parking apron can simultaneously accommodate 20 large or middle passenger airplanes. The phase-one construction project of the airport is designed to handle 1.5 million person-times passengers and 12,000 tons of cargo annually and to be installed with such key equipment as world-advanced Class I aviation lighting system and Class II precision approach and landing system.

    Sanya Phoenix International Airport was built up in June 1994 and officially open to air traffic on July 1, 1994. Since then, the airport maintains safe operation one year after another. Its annual passenger traffic volume keeps on increasing by over 20% on average. The rate of normal flights is up to 99.8%, topping the domestic civil aviation airlines. Currently, it has opened 106 flight lines including 103 domestic lines and 3 international fixed lines as well as more than 20 temporary lines for chart tourist flight, linking with 63 cities including 38 domestic cities, 2 regional cities and 23 foreign cities.

   Sanya Phoenix International Airport is situated in Sanya City that is a world-famous tropical seaside tourism-oriented metropolis and a model city for eco-tourism, endowed with 10 best tourist resources, namely sunshine, blue sky, sandy beach, air, forest, animals, hot spring, caves, local custom and rurality. The city lies at the same latitude as America's Hawaii, thus is honorably called as “Oriental Hawaii”. In 81km2 of fan-shaped area north of Sanya, there distributes 19 famous scenic zones and natural reserves and 115 sight spots, accounting for two thirds of Haina's total. Passengers coming by international flights enjoy “Landing Visa” preferential policy (duration: 3-6 months). In addition, it is approved by the state that group passengers from 21 countries enjoy “Free Visa” policy from 2001. In 2003, Civil Aviation Administration of China approved Hainan Province where the airport belongs to as a trial province to open the 3rd, 4th and 5th flight rights. 

    Sanya Phoenix International Airport is the first civil aviation airport to adopt joint stock system. Thanks to its unique geographical location and advantageous tourist resources, it was confirmed by International Civil Aviation Organization as the first ever airport in China with fixed international lines and flights and the first ever fixed international alternate airport in China.

    Year 2002 is an unusual year to Sanya Phoenix International Airport. After careful investigation and demonstration, Hainan Provincial Party Committee and People's Government entrusted Hainan Airlines Group, one of top 4 airlines groups in China to operate Sanya Phoenix International Airport. The group with a wealth of experience in management promptly appointed a team of prominent managerial personnel to take part in the management of the airport. Henceforth, the airport opened a new chapter of history.

    Air traffic volume increased steadily and rapidly, financial status was improved fundamentally, management mechanism was changed thoroughly and quality in management was upgraded comprehensively. The airport passed the certification of ISO9001 quality management system, getting on the track of international quality management standard. Personnel reform was carried out boldly and resolutely and a young, professional and knowledgeable team was successfully set up. The airport introduced foreign capital and advanced experience in management and established “Sanya Lufthansa Inflight Food Co., Ltd.” by joint investment with LSG Sky Chefs. It has made great efforts to insure safety of all aspects. The efforts have been paid off. The airport has achieved the ninth and tenth safety production years and won quiet a number of honorary titles including “Sanya Advanced Unit in Safety Production in 2002”, “Sanya Advanced Unit in Safety Production in 2003”, “Advanced Unit to Ensure the Security of Boao Forum for Asia in 2003”, “Advance Unit to Ensure the Security of the 53rd Miss World Final Competition”, “First Place among Hainan Enterprises in the Appraisal of Professional Fire Control in 2003” and “Advanced Collective in On-the-post Training of Public Security and Fire Control Troop and Professional Fire Control Team in 2003”.
