West Island is shaped like a hawksbill, which is like a turtle living in tropical area. It is the largest of a series of small islands located off of Sanya. Home to fishing tribes for generations, its idyllic surroundings of sandy beaches, rocky coves, and an interior filled with palm trees are now being discovered by domestic and foreign tourists alike.

West Island is the number one destination in Hainan for diving and water sports. Located 8 miles off the coast, the island offers every kind of diversion for those with an active lifestyle. Diving instructors are internationally (PADI) certified, and offer a full range of equipment for rental. Scuba excursions are available from shore or by boat.

Speedboats for the 10 minutes trip to West Island depart regularly from Sanya Harbor and are available morning to evening.
